How to not look awkward in your couple photos

Every time I take photos for a couple, there is one concern that towers over the rest. It usually goes something like … “We have never taken photos before, so we are super awkward”. I am here to tell you - we are all like that! There are a couple things that can help with this …

First and foremost, BE YOURSELF! It is important to remember how you two normally act around each other. Your unique connection is what makes the photos truly special, and being yourselves ensures that the images reflect the real, unscripted love you share.

POSING … If posing is something you are afraid of, something that has always helped me is seeking out inspiration. Whether this be on Instagram, Pinterest or another platform, these inspiration photos can help you identify which you would love to do! Also, keep in mind that the photographer will be guiding you the entire time, it is quite literally our job. However, we do not want our couples to feel like they have to strictly stick to the pose given. In fact, we want genuine moments to happen throughout the shoot. Usually, this occurs in between poses or at the end of a pose. These are usually what end up being everyone’s favorite photos!

Another thing that is a lifesaver is MOVEMENT! Incorporating movement into your photoshoot adds an extra dimension, while allowing you to loosen up. Whether it's a casual stroll, a dance, or sharing a moment of laughter, these things not only result in amazing photos, but it can actually make you forget the camera is there. The focus shifts from posing to enjoying each other's company, allowing your photographer to capture genuine, spontaneous moments. WE LOVE THIS!

Most importantly, during the photoshoot, keep your attention on each other rather than the camera. Engage in conversation, share inside jokes, or reminisce about cherished memories. By staying connected and present with one another, the camera becomes a subtle observer, capturing the intimate moments that define your relationship. Trust in the process, enjoy the experience, and let the love between you two shine through every frame.

These couple of things can greatly improve your photoshoot experience! Everybody is nervous about what they will look like in front of the camera, but remember to be yourself, look at poses and love your partner like normal! You will find out, it is never as bad as you think it is. Photoshoots are fun, get excited!
